RM

Who we are

We have a 50-year heritage serving only the education sector. We are the partner of choice for more than 8,000 schools in the UK and count many of the country’s multi-academy trusts among our clients.

Our people are EdTech specialists who know first-hand what it means to be in the classroom and appreciate the safeguarding responsibilities and cyber security challenges that schools face.

Between them, our 110 mobile and in-school engineers, plus their remote colleagues, maintain 75,000 Windows servers, laptops and PCs in UK schools. We’re happy working with Apple devices too! In 2023 we installed approximately 200 kilometres of network cable working on Connect the Classroom projects alone.

By partnering with RM trusts benefit from this scale and experience in the education sector.

What we do

RM’s NX-Gen IT services portfolio offers multi-academy trusts a framework for change that promotes continual improvement in technology, security and process.
With modules covering evaluating and documenting your current technology state, planning and deploying new technology, managing a trust’s ongoing everyday support needs, and providing all staff with training to get the most from your technology investment.

RM also provides fast and reliable broadband connections for over 3,000 schools in the UK. All RM broadband connections meet the requirements of the DfE’s technology standards and come with a configurable firewall to protect against cyber attacks plus dynamic reporting on your school or trust's online activity and bandwidth usage.

RM SafetyNet helps trust and school safeguarding teams meet the content filtering requirements of KCSiE guidelines to protect staff and pupils from harmful online material.

Schools and trusts use multiple apps for learning and administrative or management tasks. Managing user access and logins can be a burden. RM Unify simplifies access for staff and pupils to the apps and software they need. Our education consultants can also help set up Microsoft 365 or Google for Education to enable simpler communication and collaboration among staff and pupils.

Through our partnerships with leading device and hardware manufacturers, RM offers classroom-ready laptops, tablets, audiovisual displays and accessories. By buying through RM, trusts and individual schools can benefit from trade-in schemes for their existing devices to make budgets go further. We also offer a parental contribution scheme to make 1 to 1 device provision possible.

How we help

RM only works in the education sector. Our company mission is to improve the lives of learners through technology.
We are investing to make our operations as environmentally sustainable as possible and to offer our customers ways of meeting their own sustainability targets.

RM has reduced carbon emissions by more than 61% since our baseline year of 2015 and is exploring opportunities to reduce further. Evidencing our commitment to sustainability, we were shortlisted for CRN’s Sustainable IT Solutions Provider of the Year in their 2022 annual awards and, in the same year, appointed a Head of Sustainability to manage this activity.
We also plan and deliver low-energy net zero strategies for ICT provision. For example, we worked with one multi-academy trust to save money and reduce their carbon footprint in terms of power consumption, and cooling by significantly reducing their number of on-premises servers.

We have chosen to partner with Ecologi - a B-Corp certified organisation that plants trees around the world and facilitates the funding of carbon offset projects. We will fund planting a mangrove tree in forests in Madagascar and other developing countries for every customer who selects RM as their broadband supplier. We also participate in reuse and recycling schemes for hardware items when they are no longer used by the company or our clients.
RM works with relevant organisations to provide engaging learning opportunities to schools, such as the RM Starflight Academy in association with SaxaVord Spece Port and ViewSonic.

We routinely work with trusts on apprenticeship schemes to provide a route into employment for the next generation of technicians and engineers.

We regularly share tips, technical updates and examples of best practice on the RM blog.

In addition, we commission research into important topics, such as the use of AI by pupils, and provide opportunities for education leaders to discuss such topics with their peers.
