Checking the progress of your governance development plan
Some trusts find it helpful to schedule a progress check after holding an external review of governance (ERG) to ensure that the trust is achieving value from the review by implementing its findings.
This can be done at the point of commissioning your review or any time after its completion. We recommend that progress checks take place no earlier than three full terms after the report has been accepted by the board to enable a clear view of progress made and work ongoing.
The progress check will explore how successfully your trust is implementing its governance development plan through interviews, an analysis of progress vs ERG recommendations and, where appropriate, a comparative analysis of survey outcomes. This independent assessment can catalyse further action by identifying what progress has been made, what has not and why, impediments to progress that the board needs to address or consider how new circumstances in the trust may be reflected in your action plan.
Progress checks typically take around three days and will provide you with a detailed written report that will signpost resources and set out practical recommendations for your next steps.
