Lloyds Bank

Who we are

Lloyds Bank’s Education Team is dedicated to supporting academy trusts with a range of school banking services and specifically developed guidance in line with the latest ministerial direction. This ranges from support for schools considering the creation of a brand new trust to helping existing trusts with strategic growth preparation. We work with more academies than any other bank – 2 in 3 of all academies choose our services over other providers*. We are deeply immersed in your sector and continue to evolve to help you meet the demands of an ever changing educational landscape.

Experience has taught us that a more hands-on approach is needed to get underneath the surface of a school’s needs. That’s why we have a team of relationship managers who get to know school trusts and their leaders, and identify solutions that not only support, but allow schools to flourish. All of our education relationship managers have a deep understanding of the sector. We also closely monitor changes made by the Department for Education (DFE) and Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), so that we’re able to provide relevant, value adding support to your trust.

What we do

We’re committed to remaining true to our heritage as a bank at the heart of our communities. We aim to help UK schools prosper through a number of programmes and initiatives:

Supporting Leadership

We provide direct support to the leadership of schools and MATs by recruiting and training school governors from our own team at Lloyds Bank, interlacing our support at both an external and internal level.

Greener learning

Alongside this we regularly partner with trusts and other beneficiaries to create opportunities for added value to our schools. We are working with leading Environmental, Social and Governance providers in the sector to support our trusts in their carbon emissions journey to net zero.

In 2020, we partnered with the Woodland Trust as part of a 10 year initiative to help increase community volunteering from schools to help expand new woodlands.

The partnership enables schools to boost their profile within their communities, while encouraging children to become more interested in sustainability.

Smarter Financial Thinking

Our financial education initiatives aim to make sure that students and parents secure the knowledge of how to make their money work for them.

We take the time to ensure a number of colleagues are available to offer direct support to young people, providing them with knowledge that will be invaluable in later life.

We've also created a series of resources so teachers can help students of all ages understand how to stay in control of their financial wellbeing.

Helping children BLOOM

In 2019, together with our partner Mental Health UK, we launched our mental health initiative ‘BLOOM’.

In an effort to recognise the stresses that school-age children can be put under, the initiative better equips teachers and Key Stage 3 and 4 students to understand and improve their mental wellbeing and resilience.

The initiative also provides a resource library for parents and teachers to help them find appropriate guidance and solutions.

The programme is expected to reach over half a million children across the UK.

Looking to the future

Through our Lloyds Scholarship Programme, in 2021 we were able to help more than 1,000 undergraduates from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend a top UK university.

Our commitment to excellence spans all levels of the education system, whether it’s supporting your school with the financial expertise it needs or helping a community to grow and thrive.

How we help

The education landscape is constantly changing. The drive for schools to become academies and part of multi academy trusts continues and our Education Team is highly experienced in helping education providers to form new trusts, as well as providing strategic support to growing trusts. We provide guidance on financial efficiencies and banking structures that provide our education partners with full oversight and control of their banking services.

We also offer bespoke services to our clients, focusing in on areas of need and quickly adapting strategies to suit their needs.

Our School Banking account provides you with the help you need to make the most of your resources. We offer a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Free day-to-do banking**
  • Corporate MultiPay cards, to make paying for travel and supplies as easy as possible
  • An online banking service, able to provide secure imports of Bacs payment files, that is compatible with most education IT systems
  • Cash collection services
  • Deposit solutions to help you make the most of your funds in a way that suits your cashflow

We also seek ways to add additional value to our trusts through our partner relationships such as:

  • The ability to turn your school into a cashless environment, streamlining payments from parents, providing a clear and concise paper trail, or helping prevent stigmas around free school meals
  • Help in assessing and mitigating business risk including cyber crime, delivering webinars specifically for education providers and offering further support through our Fraud and Security Hub
  • Providing a simple and cost-effective way to fund and manage any school vehicles through our partnership with award-winning fleet specialist Lex Autolease

We’re proud to partner with industry leaders who help us provide the best support to our education clients – including the Confederation of School Trusts.
