Ginger Energy

Who we are

We are a team of energy experts and enthusiasts, headquartered in leafy Edgbaston Birmingham, delivering excellence to our clients by providing a variety of services starting with energy procurement.

Our Directors have all previously worked in listed companies, including licenced energy suppliers. Some, including the Finance Director, have served at PLC board level, and our policies and operational processes reflect the discipline and rigour of a listed company.

Our focus has always been to place ourselves as a trusted energy outsource partner. Integrity and transparency in all our dealings with clients, is at the heart of everything we do. We remain independent and are not associated with any single supplier or metering provider.

Since Ginger Energy was established in 2013, we have become one of the industry’s most respected energy consultancies. Specialising in the education sector, we have helped our Trust clients navigate the complex energy market to ensure they achieve best fit, best value contracts directly suited to the needs of their estate.

We invest in good technology and great people. Our commitment to best practice and compliance is evidenced by our partnerships with The Confederation of School Trusts and The Trust Network.

What we do

We are here to support and guide our clients through the complexities of the UK energy market, so they can make informed decisions regarding their energy contracts.

By understanding each Trusts estate portfolio, we can offer independent advice. Our approach is to be fully open and transparent in all our dealings with clients. And, we provide these services, whilst supporting your Trust to comply with relevant procurement regulations.

Our proposition starts with a full energy review of existing arrangements. This is followed by a series of engagements to enable us to formulate a purchasing strategy uniquely designed around the Trust’s own specific requirements.

Price is of course always as major consideration but there are many more factors to consider depending on how each Trust operates.

From the onset, we engage with our clients and encourage involvement from various stakeholders in the Trust. Procurement, estate, finance and business managers ideally should form a panel with Ginger acting as industry experts to guide them through best practice and work together to decide the specific requirements of the new contracts.

After the key contract objectives have been identified a full FTS or partial tender will be initiated; once the results are in, a blind testing will be completed independently by two of our team, to identify the best fit on a score basis and the results will indicate which supplier is selected by the panel.

The successful suppliers will be appointed, that’s when the real work starts! Ginger Energy will provide ongoing support to ensure the contracts transfer and any objections are handled.

Once the schools are on supply with their new contracts, Ginger provide ongoing support which will include invoice validation, dispute and complaint management and generally being the one stop support function for all matters relating to the Trusts gas or electricity supplies.

How we help

To further support our education clients, for the academic year 22/23 we have collaborated with Drax Group to give all our education sector clients (whether they’re with Drax or not), access to age-appropriate curriculum-aligned educational resources, including tours of Drax Group Power Station. These free resources aim to help clients deliver their STEM objectives and come at a time when school budgets are under severe pressure due to the global energy crisis.
