Understanding and making use of school performance data: How well are we doing? Understanding what performance measures can, and can’t tell you and what to do about it.
Overview
This masterclass is designed for school leaders and other trust stakeholders who are looking to better understand their data national performance measures and how they can be used to empower school improvement. It will be particularly relevant to anyone new to leading assessment and performance in their academy or trust. This three-part course will start with some fundamental principles to observe when using data, and explore the range of national assessments at all key stages, their usefulness and limitations. The course will provide an overview of the key external data points within the academic year, helping leaders to understand how these ultimately feed into performance tables and how to ensure mistakes aren’t made.
We will then look at possible approaches to internal assessment data, helping delegates think about their own practice in areas such as target setting and their approaches to working at scale and the issues around harmonising across multiple schools.
