In this term's meeting we will be focusing on what organisational resilience looks like in a trust setting.
The Labour Government has unleashed a very significant policy reform agenda. Major reforms to the schooling system outlined in the Schools White Paper and consultation on SEND reform will take place in a wider context of falling pupil numbers, increased pay, rising core costs, more duties on employers alongside increased restrictions on their ability to deploy staff.
The ability of the system to respond to the reforms will depend on the organisational resilience of school trusts. Organisational resilience is the ability of an organisation to absorb and adapt in a changing environment.
To be both protective and effective in this context, trusts will need to:
- Anticipate the changes and address vulnerabilities proactively.
- Absorb the impacts of change effectively; and
- Adapt strategy and business model to a changed and changing context.
Resilience First and Canfield University School of Management have developed a model for organisational resilience based around five key dimensions: social, financial, workforce, infrastructure and environment. The model highlights how organisations can assess their capabilities, resilience outcomes, key resilience indicators, and the importance of stress testing real-world events.
Join us for a conversation about how we use this model to build our organisational resilience to enable us to deliver the reforms through a considered, strategic approach that is protective of schools and leaders.
