Confederation of School Trusts Deputy Chief Executive Steve Rollett said: "Ofsted plays an important role in the education system and it must be trusted by both parents and professionals. The changes Ofsted has made to its initial proposals are welcome and encouraging and show it is listening to schools. We will be watching closely and engaging with trust leaders and Sir Martyn to see how the new framework works in practice and continue that dialogue. Training, consistency, and openness will be crucial to implementation and building further confidence in the new inspection processes.
"We also need to remember that Ofsted inspect schools but it does not regulate them - that is for the Department of Education. The revised accountability arrangements announced alongside the Ofsted changes will provide renewed certainty for trusts. It is crucial that we have a regulatory strategy that is intelligent, coherent, and proportionate, and this is a step towards that."
CST has today published a member briefing on the Ofsted inspection changes.
