Confederation of School Trusts Chief Executive Leora Cruddas CBE said: "We welcome this announcement from the government and the trade unions.
"It is important that government has accepted the recommendation of the independent pay review body. It is also important that the government has recognised that schools and trusts would not have been able to meet this pay settlement from within existing resources. We are pleased to see that government has agreed to fund the pay award over 3.5%.
"Ministers have listened to the evidence that schools and trusts are in different financial positions so the announcement of the £40 million to support those schools and trusts facing the greatest financial challenges is welcome. We look forward to the detail of these announcements so that we can assess what this means for schools and trusts."
