Learning with Parents

Learning with Parents is a parental engagement charity reaching over 40,000 families, helping them build positive learning interactions at home. Founded and run largely by teachers, the charity believes parents are uniquely placed to help their child learn, because no one knows or loves a child like parents do.

In the UK, everyday learning moments are at risk. Fewer families read or play together daily at home, as time together comes under pressure from busy schedules, cost-of-living, and the pull of devices.

Learning with Parents supports all families to build habits of talk, play and exploration, weaving learning into ordinary moments at home. They do this through partnering with school trusts and sharing insights with the sector. Families are able to access short, child-led videos and screen-free, curriculum-aligned activities together at home through a simple online platform.

Alongside their school programmes, Learning with Parents founded the Parental Engagement Forum, a free-monthly online space where MATs, schools and organisations come together to share best practice, network and explore the strongest research on engaging families meaningfully.

Learning with Parents also runs a Parental Engagement CPD programme, giving school leaders the research and tools to understand their parent communities and build lasting engagement strategies.

Learning with Parents works with school trusts across the UK to bring home and classroom closer together, helping families build learning habits that let children learn through the lens of their own life. The mobile-first platform encourages regular engagement, making it easier for learning to flow into family life, while giving teachers unique insight into how children are learning at home.

When families are supported to learn together, relationships strengthen, parents grow in confidence, and children develop a lasting love of learning. Drawing on insights from the families and teachers who use the platform, Learning with Parents continually evolves its programmes and helps shape how leaders and policymakers value learning at home.

Programmes support family engagement from Early Years to the end of primary school. Parents access everything through a single magic link - no passwords, no app downloads. Each activity opens with a short, child-led video, followed by a hands-on, screen-free task for parents and children to do together, with the option to share comments, photos, or audio clips.

For staff, a real-time dashboard shows engagement by class or school-wide, all year round. Simple tools - stickers, ticks, comments - let teachers respond in their own way, without adding to workload.

Schools are supported from day one with a full set of launch resources, including parent letters translated into 27 languages, helping every family feel welcome from the start.

Learning with Parents helps school trusts build effective parental engagement strategies, empowering staff to understand their parent communities. Through our digital platform and expertise, we support trusts to create lasting change for the families they work with.

Our programmes support…

School readiness
Children who arrive "school ready" tend to stay ahead, while those who start behind their peers often struggle to catch up. Over the summer, families receive a teddy bear and are tasked with helping Teddy get ready for school. Families complete practical, resource-light activities together at home that build daily routines, foundational academic skills and social interaction.

Reading engagement
Reading is often the first way schools and families connect over a shared commitment to a child's learning. Our Digital Reading Log encourages regular reading at home and helps teachers identify and connect with families who aren't yet engaging.

English & Maths
Engaging parents in core curriculum topics can be difficult, especially if they're facing barriers around their own academic skills and confidence. Our child-led videos introduce parents to the language and methods used in school, carrying classroom learning into everyday life.

Financial Literacy
Money shapes lives, yet many UK adults feel anxious about it and fewer than half of young people receive meaningful financial education at school. Our Money Skills programme gives families real-world ways to talk about finance.

CPD
Our in-depth programme covers background research, understanding your parent community, piloting interventions and home-learning strategy - with staff able to apply their learning across our full suite of programmes.
