Hemisphere Education

Hemisphere Education is a neuroscience-informed digital training programme that helps schools to close outcome gaps, improve safeguarding and belonging, and evidence high-quality inclusive practice for inspection.

Our work is grounded in widely shared professional values: safety, belonging and fairness. These underpin effective safeguarding, positive behaviour and strong learning outcomes.

Hemisphere is the latest innovation from Rare Technology, a multi-award-winning people technology firm.

In 2022, following demand from schools, we created a bespoke version of our Hemisphere Corporate training platform for the education sector. This enabled a level of investment, innovation and research-led development that is often out of reach for schools working alone.

The result is Hemisphere Education: a scalable, affordable and non-ideological programme that equips all staff with the confidence, knowledge and shared language to support safeguarding, behaviour and belonging, and empowers KS3+ students to participate confidently in school life.

In its first three years, Hemisphere Education has grown from pilot to national recognition, now working with over 350 schools and multiple trusts, delivering measurable, inspection-relevant impact.

Trusted by over 350 schools and completed by more than 40,000 users each year, Hemisphere distils two decades of expertise, independent reports, government data and original research into high-impact, low-disruption training.

The programme includes annual 60+ minute CPD for staff and governors, alongside practical resources, and a 30+ minute session for students. Training covers a range of experiences that affect belonging, including race and ethnicity (Black, South Asian, Chinese and Jewish heritage), religion (Sikhism, Islam and Judaism), and socio-economic background. Each module visits similar themes through a new lens, ensuring learning remains relevant and cumulative rather than one-off.

Hemisphere supports staff to:
- Understand how identity, behaviour and academic outcomes interact
- Use a shared, professional language to discuss pupil experience and risk
- Apply evidence from neuroscience to teaching, behaviour and pastoral practice

For trusts, Hemisphere provides:
- A consistent model aligned to safeguarding, inspection and school improvement priorities
- Trust-wide oversight of uptake, completion and emerging themes
- Real-time engagement and impact data to inform CPD, behaviour, safeguarding and curriculum planning
- Training for trustees and governors, strengthening oversight

“Thousands of staff are developing confidence and taking meaningful action that empowers pupils and drives community change. Hemisphere is a vital part of our strategy to advance equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.”

Roz Cordner, Director of Education, Southwark Diocesan Board of Education

“Hemisphere has been transformative for our schools. Their commitment to collaboration and responsiveness has made them an invaluable partner in advancing our equity and inclusion goals.”

Sally Spence, Deputy CEO, Impact Multi Academy Trust

Hemisphere works in long-term partnership with trusts to embed inclusive practice in ways that are sustainable, measurable and aligned to safeguarding and inspection expectations.

A clear example is our partnership with The Compass Partnership of Schools (15 schools across Greenwich and Essex).

In May 2024, Compass became the first multi-academy trust to adopt Hemisphere across all its schools, including primary and special settings, at a time when misinformation and racist incidents were rising nationally. Rather than retreating from inclusion, Compass chose a trust-wide, preventative approach.

In the first 20 months of implementation:
- 93% of staff report changes to their practice
- Racist incidents reduced by almost two-thirds
- 97% of parents report feeling welcomed and respected

This work has been recognised in Ofsted inspections:

“The school knows its pupils and families well and is responsive to any concerns.”
Horn Park Primary School - Ofsted 2025

Inspectors noted strong, trusting relationships between staff and families. Leaders report that Hemisphere supported staff to build confidence, deepen understanding and enable more open dialogue with parents and carers.

Following implementation:
- 95% of parents feel welcomed by their child’s school
- 97% feel respected and valued by their child’s teacher

More widely, Compass has embedded a consistent trust-wide inclusion model, with inspections consistently praising culture, relationships, behaviour and personal development. Pupil voice indicates children feel safer, happier and more able to talk about who they are.
