The Youth Sport Trust is the UK’s leading charity improving every young person’s education and development through play and sport.
We work with schools, Multi-Academy Trusts, education leaders and partners to create healthier, happier and more successful school communities where every child can thrive. Through evidence-informed practice, professional development and strategic support, we help schools embed high-quality physical education, sport and physical activity as powerful drivers of school improvement.
Our work supports trust leaders to improve attendance, wellbeing, inclusion, personal development and educational outcomes by creating active school cultures where every young person feels they belong, is ready to learn and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
We believe that access to high-quality physical education, sport and play should be an entitlement for every child, regardless of their background, ability or circumstances.
The Youth Sport Trust works alongside Multi-Academy Trusts to develop strategic, sustainable approaches that improve outcomes for children and young people through physical education, sport and physical activity.
Every trust is different, so we tailor our support to meet local priorities, whether improving attendance, strengthening wellbeing, developing leadership or enhancing curriculum quality.
Our support includes:
• Developing trust-wide strategies for physical education, school sport, physical activity and wellbeing.
• Supporting executive leaders to embed physical activity within wider trust improvement priorities.
• Leadership development for trust leaders, school leaders and PE subject leaders.
• High-quality professional development and CPD for teachers and practitioners.
• Curriculum review and development to strengthen the quality of PE across schools.
• Support to improve attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and personal development through physical activity.
• Developing inclusive practice so every child can participate and succeed.
• Helping trusts create whole-school approaches to health and wellbeing.
• Access to the national Trust PE, Sport and Wellbeing Leaders' Network to share practice, innovation and expertise.
Through Youth Sport Trust, trusts can access flexible and cost-effective support, expert guidance, professional learning, resources and networking opportunities designed to meet the needs of individual schools and trust-wide improvement strategies.
We also deliver a wide range of programmes that help schools:
• Improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
• Develop leadership, character and employability skills.
• Increase participation and engagement in physical activity.
• Promote inclusion, belonging and equity.
• Support girls, children with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and young people from underrepresented communities to access positive experiences through sport and play.
Alongside our programmes, we provide a comprehensive range of practical resources, research, implementation guidance, webinars and professional learning opportunities that help schools respond to the complex challenges facing education today.
The Youth Sport Trust works with thousands of schools and education professionals across the UK each year, supporting them to improve outcomes for children through physical education, sport and physical activity.
We understand that trusts are balancing multiple priorities including attendance, inclusion, staff development, curriculum quality, wellbeing and achievement. Our role is to help leaders use physical activity as a strategic lever that contributes to these wider improvement goals rather than as a standalone initiative.
Our work supports trusts to:
• Improve attendance, engagement and readiness to learn.
• Strengthen pupils' physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
• Develop confident, inclusive school cultures where every child feels they belong.
• Build leadership capability across trust and school teams.
• Improve the quality and consistency of curriculum PE across schools.
• Increase opportunities for disadvantaged pupils and children with SEND.
• Develop young people's leadership, confidence and essential life skills.
• Embed sustainable approaches that align with wider trust improvement priorities.
Our programmes, professional learning and strategic consultancy are informed by research and developed in partnership with education leaders, young people and national organisations. This ensures schools receive practical, evidence-informed support that delivers meaningful and sustainable impact.
Whether supporting a single school or an established Multi-Academy Trust, we work collaboratively to build capacity, develop leadership and create active school communities where children and young people can achieve their very best.
