Reimagining governance

CST Trustees and Governance Leaders Conference 2024
Friday 7 June 2024, Birmingham Conference and Events Centre

Our 2024 event has taken place - register for 2025 conference updates

This year’s conference is the culmination a year-long focus on reimagining governance: going back to basics and reimagining a fresh and bespoke version of trust governance that is effective, accountable, and ethical.

It incorporates and celebrates the new Academy Trust Governance Code and our shared concepts of trust quality as set out in our Building strong trusts assurance framework and the DfE’s Trust Quality Descriptions.

It builds on the work of CST's Trustees and Governance Leaders Professional Community throughout the academic year, exploring strategic governance, building resilience through intelligent risk management, place-based thinking and meaningful stakeholder engagement, and alignment and agency.

The conference will seek to answer the essential question: How will we know it’s working?

Each session focuses on a key area of governance and ask how our boards assure themselves that their strategy is working by accurately measuring and assessing impact towards achieving our charitable objects. While this should be informed by DfE performance measures, it need not be constrained by them. As trusts, we should measure and assess what we value.

This year’s conference also includes more opportunities across the day for participants to engage with each other in workshop discussions and facilitated networking. We will also be hosting an optional informal pre-conference dinner for those who are travelling the night before and would like to connect.
